Whether you're looking for a quiet mountain stroll or a high-energy festival, North Georgia is pulling out all the stops today.
This is the 35th year for this gathering at Boling Park, and it is easily one of the most unique ways to spend Mother's Day in the state. It's a vibrant, respectful celebration of Native American culture that is as educational as it is beautiful.
Rhythmic, colorful, and soulful, expect world-class dance exhibitions, handmade jewelry, and a special Mother's Day Honor Dance. Gates open at 11:00 AM and run until 6:00 PM, and you definitely want to be settled in your spot by 1:00 PM for the Grand Entry. Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for kids ages 6 to 12. Parking is free and right on-site, but bring a lawn chair or a blanket!
You can't really do a Blue Ridge Sunday without a trip to Mercier. While the apples are still growing on the trees, the bakery is in full swing for the holiday. It's open 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM for a busy, sweet-smelling, and classic North Georgia vibe.
Take note that it will be crowded. Parking is free, but if you're aiming for those famous fried pies, budget an extra 20 minutes for the line. If the bakery is too packed, head to the market side for some hard cider or a jar of local sourwood honey for Mom.
For the mom who wants the mountain views without the mountain hike, the train is the ultimate move for a nostalgic and relaxing vibe. Trains depart from the historic depot in downtown Blue Ridge. This weekend is almost always a sell-out.
If you don't have tickets, you can still enjoy the downtown atmosphere—just watching the train pull in is a great photo op. If you do have tickets, give yourself at least 45 minutes to find parking and check in.
